The unintended expat blogger behind Soft Pine Harbor

Hello, I am Lena
I work as a project manager. I am a parent. An expat living in Berlin, Germany.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Germany wasn’t part of the long-term plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and rising expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complex than expected.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, ambiguity, and plenty of on-the-job learning. Over time, routines emerged. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began shaping something steady.
Why I Built Soft Pine Harbor
Most online resources leaned toward corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was a sincere, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance grounded in everyday life in Germany.
What this site does (and doesn't)
This site is:
- Hands-on experience from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated when there is a real change
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Germany continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, don't hesitate to contact me.
Cheers,
Lena
